5 Quick and Easy Moving Solutions

These companies operate very much like full service relocators (which we'll talk about a little later). These guys are the moving companies with the big semi trucks and trailers. But they also have smaller trucks as well. These companies specialize in moving people like you across the country versus across the state (although they can and will do this.)

But unlike full service movers, these guys use the quantity over quality method.

There are many van liners out there most notable are United, Allied, Bekins, Mayflower and Wheaton. Another good but not so known van liner is Stevens.

Moving van lines (van liners as I call them) are great cheap moving companies in some ways and in others very expensive and risky.

I once did a survey of all the moving scams that I found online and I noticed that over 80% of all moving scams were done by "licensed and insured" van liners. Bekins being the number one culprit. Oh, I could go into all the reason why this is the case, but I am not trying to scare you off this method of moving, only trying to inform you so you know what you may be getting into.

Please remember, that these van line companies have a great volume so obviously they'll also have the greatest number of complaints. Most of the moves are done on time and with high quality.

The van liners will tell you that it will normally take between 7 and 10 days to deliver, but in many occasions it has taken several weeks and in some extreme cases months to deliver.

These agents get hired by the van liner to load you their trucks and deliver to the new address which is usually in another state. But they may have more than one household on their trucks at a time. It would not be uncommon for these trucks to have 3 or 4 households on one load.

BY having this multiple households on their truck gives them the quantity and thus lowers the price to you for moving as they can spread the cost out over multiple households.

The problem for this is that you then have to wait for your stuff to be delivered. I.e. if you are the first load on the truck it means you will be the last to have unloaded. And a truck will wait until it http://www.mayflower.com/moving-services is full before they start their deliveries. In the summer, when its busiest, this is not bad because the truck will fill up fast, but in the winter, when it is slow, this can take weeks.

To understand this, you need to know a little bit on how these companies work: Many of the trucks are owned by private individuals that do their own hiring of the moving crew, or it is a local moving company that has semis and hire the crew and drivers. These guys are called "agents." It is operated very much like a franchise.
